Position Red
Key Code Issue…PATS? – 1999 Mercury Cougar?
Car will not turnover in the #4 position, total dead silence, I put a brand new battery in and was wondering if it may be the PATS security key code not being recognized. With the key removed, the red light on the dashboard flashes approx. every two seconds, when I put the key in and turn to the #3 position, red light remains illuminated for approx. 1minute then flashes twice, then once every couple seconds, repeating the process.
For what I researched it sounds like it could be the PATS key code that’s malfunctioned. If so, does this prevent the car from turning over or will it still turnover and not start.
It’s the PATS system. The vehicle is in theft mode. A locksmith or dealer will have to clear the fault code and reprogram the key.
