How to fade fresh, red surgical scar?
I just had a hypertrophic scar excised on my arm three weeks ago, and the new incision looks very red. Has anyone used
Mederma / silicone sheets (cica care / Mepiform) for their surgical scars? Please share detailed experiences:
- at what stage did you start using Mederma (how old was your scar?)
- for how long have you used Mederma / silicone sheet to start seeing an effect?
- how many times did you rub Mederma into your scar in one day?
- did you try any other methods (pulsed dye laser, KTP laser, retinoid, etc…), and please tell me the specific type of laser you used, how many treatments you’ve had, and after how many treatments did your scar start looking better

My mother had a very large scar from the removal of melanoma on her hand…aggressive physical therapy and keeping the scar moist has really helped with its appearance.
At the same time she had a large chunk removed from her left leg for, again, melanoma. She used the silicon patches that you are referring to and she really thinks that they helped a lot with the scar (which is almost 7 inches long). I would try them!
